Is Drunk Shakespeare the Best Shakespeare?

Drunk Shakespeare - The Lounge - August 14, 2021

Going from Shakespeare in the Park to Drunk Shakespeare feels like the correct progression of events. And while I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this show, I must say it was one of the most fun experiences in a theater I’ve had in a while!

Being a fan of Shakespeare, I loved how the actors could laugh about the play while also flawlessly executing some of my favorite monologues. For anyone who hasn’t studied Macbeth, it was a fun, lighthearted way to explain the story and make it relevant and entertaining. I don’t remember a time I’ve laughed so much during a show.

But maybe it’s just the theater student in me that my favorite part of the night was when the Drunk Actor of the evening (Preston) performed the Let’s Talk of Graves monologue from Richard II. It was so well performed that I would immediately sign up to see him perform the entire play. But I equally loved beating him in a beer chugging contest (through a straw).

So if you are looking for an incredibly entertaining evening of theater, I would highly recommend checking out Drunk Shakespeare, currently playing in NYC and Chicago. I got my tickets on TodayTix and I believe there is also a Groupon available. If you love Shakespeare, you’ll find it hilarious. And if you think you hate Shakespeare, you’ll enjoy the show immensely.

Here's a video of what you can expect from the show!
