BroadwayCon Past and Present!

Happy BroadwayCon Weekend 2021!

I was fortunate enough to attend the inaugural (and infamous) BroadwayCon in 2016 at the New York Hilton Midtown, the same weekend a massive blizzard hit NYC and Broadway shut down for an entire day, which sounded unbelievable at the time. This led to a lot of programming unfortunately being cancelled that first weekend, but also led to the incredible Blizzard Party Line! It felt like having a massive sleepover with other theater lovers, hearing from Broadway legends about all kinds of stories from their past. It also was incredible getting to learn about the industry, meet some of my idols, hear sneak peeks from upcoming shows, and getting to be at the Con Where It Happened!

In 2017, the event got a massive upgrade when it moved to the Javits Center, but was still an incredible experience, meeting some of my favorite Broadway stars and getting another look at shows that were coming to Broadway that season.

While I haven’t been able to attend in recent years, I was so happy to hear that this year, even with the pandemic, the show must go on (virtually!). There were so many great panels and livestreams that talked about the industry and how to make theater during a pandemic. I loved that they did a spotlight on Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical (maybe I’ll write another post about how much I loved that fundraiser). Check out the recorded sessions and be sure to visit some of the vendors in the Marketplace!

I’m so happy that these events have been able to pivot as we wait for the return of the theater industry. Hoping that we will be back to an in-person event for 2022!
